Planting the Vision

Covenant Presbyterian Church (CPC) embarked on the journey towards establishing a church through a church planting and school chaplaincy opportunity at Presbyterian High School (PHS).

Planting the Vision

During the CPC Annual General Meeting, members engaged in an interview and Q&A session with Rev Scott Sunquist, Elder Ang from the Synod, and Mr David Wang, Principal of PHS, to better understand the church planting opportunity.

Approval was granted by the Synod and the PHS Board of Management for the planting of a church at PHS. 50 members from CPC formed the founding congregation of Ang Mo Kio Presbyterian Church.

Held its inaugural Sunday worship service at 4pm in the PHS School Hall, led by Ps Kwek Chee Hian, with a core group of pioneers and over 70 members from CPC in attendance.

Youth Ministry held its first evangelistic "Dinner and Drama" at PHS. The programme featured the story of a mother involved in prostitution and her daughter, whose lives were transformed through faith in Christ. More than 200 people attended the event in the PHS hall with 8 salvations and 2 reassurances.

Celebrated its 1st Anniversary with a cake-cutting ceremony. The Session and pioneer members gathered in the PHS School Hall to celebrate and mark this significant milestone.

The first Worship and Holy Communion Service was held in the PHS School hall, officiated by Interim Moderator Reverend Enoch Tan, who also served as the Chaplain of PHS.

The Boys' Brigade 27th Singapore Company celebrated its 25th Anniversary at PHS, with AMKPC serving as the Company's sponsoring church.

Held its first overnight Watchnight Service at Changi Conference Centre, with strong participation from both Youth and Adult Cell Groups.

Responded to an invitation from PHS Principal Mrs Carolin Tan to rebuild the chapel, creating a larger space for up to 700 students.

Held its final baptism service in the first chapel before its closure in August 2003 for rebuilding into a larger chapel with up to 700 seats.

During the SARS outbreak, church gatherings were temporarily disrupted and physical greetings suspended. Congregants wore surgical masks, kept venues well ventilated, and adapted communion practices as precautionary measures.

When COVID-19 struck, AMKPC adapted its worship services, baptisms and church activities in accordance with prevailing pandemic restrictions and guidelines. The church’s first livestream worship service was broadcast from Rev Srimal’s home.

While Sunday worship continued in two physical services, Cell Groups gathered online to study Acts 2 and shared a meal together virtually, celebrating the anniversary in fellowship from their homes.

Celebrated its 35th Anniversary with the theme, “God’s Faithfulness Through the Generations.” The celebration featured games, a physical heritage booth showcasing 35 years of AMKPC’s history, and a special anniversary Care Group Bible study, “The Church Victorious; The Task Unfinished” (Matthew 16:13–19).
